I'm Meg Hodson, founder and verified Shopify Expert. I design eCommerce stores that are equal parts beautiful and functional — the kind that make shopping feel easy and help businesses grow.

I've been working in eCommerce since 2010, building stores for everyone from enterprise brands to one-person operations just starting out. After years of seeing what works (and what definitely doesn't), I now help businesses launch Shopify stores that convert.

My Approach

Great eCommerce design is about understanding how people buy.

Before I specialised in Shopify, I spent years in publishing and communications. That taught me something important: clarity always beats cleverness. The best websites don't try to impress - they guide, inform and get out of the way so customers can shop with ease.

I combine Shopify expertise with a background in marketing and copywriting. That means I think about your store strategically—not just how it looks, but how it works, how customers move through it, and what really drives sales.

Nutmeg Studio is named for the spice that adds warmth and depth without ever being overpowering — which is how I approach my work. Every store I build is thoughtful, polished and purposeful.

How this started

In 2016, I fell pregnant while working full-time at a hectic digital marketing agency.

I knew I couldn't go back to the 8-to-5 grind after my daughter was born. So I started Nutmeg Studio slowly—doing the work I love, on my own terms.

What started as a way to keep designing while raising a baby turned into something bigger: helping other businesses (especially women-led brands) build the kind of online presence that makes people take them seriously.

I've been doing this full-time ever since, working with clients across South Africa, the UK, US, and Australia—from my home studio in Cape Town.
