Welcome to Nutmeg Studio. I’m Meg, founder and Verified Shopify Partner since 2019.

My studio designs and develops Shopify stores that balance thoughtful design with a clear, user-first flow; websites that support sustainable growth.

My Shopify journey began in 2015, when I was asked to build a 200-product store for a local MTB shop in Pietermaritzburg. Back then Shopify was new in South Africa, which meant few resources to rely on.

That project took months to complete. There were moments of tears, frustration and doubt, but when the store finally launched, something clicked for me.

With a background in content SEO, I helped the website rank for competitive search terms. Organic SEO soon became the brand's main source of online sales. Watching the orders come through gave me a deep sense of clarity. This is the work I love.

Over a decade later, my studio works with established brands, growing businesses, and thoughtful new launches. The work is challenging sometimes messy, but always meaningful. I get to work alongside inspiring founders while raising my children, creating and learning every day.

My Approach

Great eCommerce design starts with understanding how people decide to buy.

Before specialising in Shopify, I spent years working in journalism and communications. That experience taught me something essential: clarity outperforms cleverness. Successful websites guide, inform without overwhelming and remove the hurdles so customers can purchase with ease.

What sets my work apart is the combination of 10+ years Shopify experience and a mind that's always bridged two worlds: creative and analytical. I studied Philosophy, which turned out to be ideal training for this work: taking something genuinely complex and making it feel simple and obvious. That's the thinking I apply to how your store works, how customers move through it, where they hesitate, and what ethically nudges them toward a purchase.

Nutmeg Studio is named for the spice that adds warmth and depth without overpowering, which mirrors how I approach design. Thoughtful, balanced, purposeful.

What drives my work

Incredible products deserve websites that match them. Too often they don't, and it costs brands more than they realise.

I see it often: DIY stores that undermine trust; platforms like WooCommerce that become unmanageable; beautiful design paired with navigation that loses people at exactly the wrong moment; stores built without any real understanding of user experience in 2026 or conversion strategy.
