Ethereal Candle Crafters makes sculptural, hand-poured candles in a palette drawn from South Africa's landscapes.

Problems with the original website:

The brand looked generic. Built on WordPress, the original store leaned on a standard theme: a dark, busy hero, an Instagram feed taking prime space near the top, and flat product rows that reduced Ethereal's beautiful, tactile candles to small thumbnails. For a brand whose whole appeal is colour, texture and craft, the site flattened exactly what made it remarkable.

The platform had become the ceiling. WordPress and WooCommerce had served the brand early on, but were now limiting performance, reliability and the ability to scale. The setup couldn't comfortably support where the business was heading.

There was no proper wholesale system. Trade demand was growing, but the store had no clean, dedicated way for wholesale customers to order, which left a real revenue stream running on workarounds.

This was a migration and a reimagining. We moved the brand onto stronger foundations while elevating it to match the quality of the product.

The work focused on five pillars:

A smooth migration to Shopify

We moved the store from WordPress to Shopify carefully: preserving SEO and rebuilding on a faster, more reliable platform with no disruption to the business. The result is a store that performs on a foundation built to scale.

A design that matches the craft

We rebuilt the store with an elegant, editorial sensibility: generous white space, considered typography and a premium design. Where the old site buried the product, the new one frames it like the art it is.

Brand storytelling

The brand's narrative is shaped around its strongest idea: a distinctly South African eye for colour, with collections named for the landscapes that inspire them and a colour story built into the site itself. A first-time visitor now understands what makes Ethereal different within seconds and can go deeper to explore their philosophy and candle-making process.

Two stores in one: retail and wholesale

The new store serves two audiences cleanly in a single system: a professional retail experience for everyday customers and a dedicated B2B trade account for wholesale buyers.

A custom-coded bulk order form

This was the standout piece of bespoke development. We custom-built a bulk order form that lets Ethereal's wholesale customers order candles quickly and efficiently, turning a clunky, manual process into a smooth one, and making the trade side of the business easier to run.
