The Ultimate Shopify Launch Checklist: 18 things to do before you go live

Launching a new Shopify store? Before you hit “publish,” it’s essential to make sure your website is ready to deliver a smooth, trustworthy and conversion-friendly experience from day one.

This guide covers 18 essential steps to check off before your Shopify store goes live — from testing your checkout to setting up policies, apps, and SEO tools.

Why a Shopify launch checklist matters

Your online store is often your customer’s first impression of your brand. Small mistakes — like broken links, missing information, or a clunky mobile experience — can cost you sales before you even get started. This checklist is designed to help you avoid those missteps and launch with confidence.

Shopify Launch Checklist: 18 essentials before you go live

1. Proofread and test every link

Slowly go through each page. Test every button, link, and form. Check for typos, placeholder content, and unfinished sections.

2. Use your site on a mobile device

Scroll every page and go through the checkout on your phone. Make sure everything loads quickly, looks clean, and is easy to use.

3. Add your social media links

Connect Instagram, Pinterest, and any other active platforms. Use an Instagram feed if your theme allows.

4. Customise your checkout page

Add your logo and brand colours to the checkout via the Shopify customiser — a small touch that builds trust.

5. Customise your email notifications

Shopify’s standard emails are fine, but a little customisation goes a long way. Add your logo, tweak the language, and check formatting.

6. Set up abandoned cart emails

Use Shopify Email or your email marketing platform to remind customers to complete their purchases.

7. Connect your email marketing tool

Make sure forms and popups are connected to your email platform. If you offer a signup discount, test it thoroughly.

8. Add essential store policies

Every store should include: Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Shipping Info, and Returns & Refunds.

9. Add a cookie consent app

Especially important if you’re based in or selling to the EU — it helps you stay compliant with data privacy laws.

10. Install and test your reviews app

Social proof drives sales. Make sure your reviews app is installed and set to automatically request reviews post-purchase.

11. Remove unused apps

Unused apps can slow your site down. Do an audit and uninstall anything you’re not actively using.

12. Connect Google Analytics

Add GA or your preferred analytics tool to track visitors, conversions, and traffic sources.

13. Connect Google Search Console

Submit your sitemap and monitor your site’s performance in search — an essential step for SEO.

14. Add sales channels

If applicable, connect your store to Instagram Shop, Facebook Shop, Pinterest, or Google Shopping to expand your reach.

15. Connect your domain

Make sure your actual business domain is connected (not your-store.myshopify.com) and test it to ensure it works.

16. Check tax and shipping settings

Double-check that your store’s tax rules and shipping zones are set up correctly before your first sale.

17. Add your billing info

If you’re still on a free trial, make sure your billing details are up to date before going live.

18. Test the full checkout experience

Place a test order and check:
– Payment methods
– Shipping options
– Email confirmations
– Mobile shopping flow
