This is an in-depth and empowering process that follows my brand communications and marketing plan framework. At the end of this process, your business will achieve the following:

We meet virtually over Zoom or Skype to talk about: your business, your goals and why your business needs a new website. This is my chance to discover as much as possible about your business and how a website can solve problems. Request pricing guide here.

Proposal

Next I will send you an in-depth proposal outlining the project objectives and quotation / cost estimation.

Make it legal

If you want to proceed, I’ll send the first project invoice and service contract via HelloSign, which needs to be electronically signed before any work begins. Payment terms: 50% upfront before the project begins for projects beginning within 30 days* and 50% due before going live.

*For projects starting after 30 days or more: a 25% booking fee is required, followed by a 50% payment on the project start date, with the final 25% due before going live.

Client on-boarding

Once you have agreed to the legal requirements and confirmed a start date for the project, I will set up your project in my favourite project management tool  – Trello – and add you and your team members as collaborators. I use Trello to: set project milestones and to do lists for you and me; include the process guide, sitemap as it progresses, and the information about the content I need from you (and by what date). These worksheets are designed to get the right information from you so I can create a stand-out results-driven website that works. 

Next, I’ll send you a welcome email that contains a link to the Trello board and a short tutorial video explaining how to use Trello for this project. I’ll also include a link to my Calendly calendar so you can go right ahead and book your strategy and content planning coaching session with me. These need to take place before any design work begins.

Design begins

Design begins on the scheduled design start date (you’ll find this in Trello) provided you have: signed the service contract, paid the first invoice, attended the coaching sessions, and sent me all required content.

I will not begin designing unless these terms have been met. If you need to reschedule the design start date, please let me know as soon as possible so I can block out time in my calendar for your website design. Please be aware that the project will be delayed / take longer if the original start date is moved.

I will create a development url for the project and design + develop the website on there, starting with the homepage and then moving to all the other pages. At all times you will be able to view the design as it progresses. Once the whole website is designed and functional, I will ask you to send me feedback and change requests. Once you have approved the design I will move onto the next phase:

Mobile Responsive Design

This phase is all about making sure the website looks great and functions properly on all devices, from big-screen computers right through to small phone screens.

Online Security, SEO and automated website backups

I will install and set up a security plugin called Wordfence that protects your website against brute force attacks, malware and viruses. This provides 24/7 protection and monitoring. If a security breach ever occurs in future, the website administrators will be notified immediately. Wordfence provides an on-demand premium malware and virus removal service in the unlikely event that this happens to your website.

I will also make sure the website is SEO ready. This includes installing a world-class SEO plugin and adding page metadata including page titles and meta-descriptions.

I will set up an automated backup service for your website. The web host I recommend also includes full daily server-side backups as part of their service, so you can have peace of mind at all times.

Performance Optimisation

This phase is about making sure your website performs optimally. It includes installing a plugin that compresses images and setting up caching systems that improve website loading speed. I will also test your website’s speed using a number of tools such as Pingdom and GT Metrix, to name a few.

Testing

During this stage, I test the functionality of the website, including but not limited to: inquiry forms, mailing-list sign-up forms and welcome automations, eCommerce and links.

Prep to go live

On payment of the final invoice, I will start getting the website ready to go live. This includes making sure you have the correct web hosting environment set up and setting up url redirects for website redesigns so that there is minimal negative impact on search engine ranking. I will then migrate the new website to your live domain and run a number of tests to make sure everything looks and functions as it should. At this point I will also integrate your website with Google Analytics and Search Console.

Go Live

Time to celebrate your amazing new website and the growth it’s going to bring! I will create custom social media artwork for you to share that announces your new website. I’ll also help you think of a launch strategy and will make sure to announce your new website on my Instagram and Facebook pages.

Handover

I will send you a goodbye kit that contains everything you need to look after your new beautiful website, including the video training guides, admin access to your website and Google Analytics + Search Console accounts. Or you can opt for one of my web care plans.

WordPress is open source content management software and currently powers around 25% of all websites on the Internet. The project is contributed to by tens of thousands of developers all over the world and is growing from strength to strength. WordPress allows me to develop flexible and customisable websites to modern standards and observes web development best practices. Furthermore, the community of web developers that use WordPress reaches far and wide and allows us to tap in to this collective intelligence and bring that wealth of experience to your project.

Shopify is an all-in-one eCommerce solution. This means you don’t need to worry about organising third-party website hosting; that’s all taken care of as part of your monthly Shopify subscription.

Generally speaking, business owners find that Shopify stores are much more easier to manage and update themselves because Shopify offers a simpler system than WordPress.

However, you don’t get nearly as much design and functionality flexibility with a Shopify store (when compared to WordPress).

During our Discovery Consultation we will discuss what eCommerce platform will suit your business best: Shopify or WordPress. Both are amazing.

Essentially, your website is a collection of files, and those files need to be stored somewhere. A web hosting company stores your websites files for you on secure servers that make sure your website is online 24/7.

Not all website hosts offer the same level or quality of service. That’s why it’s important to make sure you use the right web host to ensure your website performs optimally and is as secure as possible.

My preferred web hosting company is Cloudways. They offer super-fast cloud hosting, which is the perfect solution for eCommerce websites.

It’s important to take care of your WordPress website. This includes doing regular backups, plugin and theme updates.

All web design packages include training showing you and your team how to maintain your website. In addition, all plans include 30 days’ tech and maintenance support after going live (to iron our any issues after launch).

If you don’t have the time or inclination to manage your own website after handover, I offer the following web care package:

Premium Web Management and Cloud Hosting Package, includes:

  • Regular plugin and theme updates.
  • 24/7 automated security monitoring.
  • Monthly backups.
  • Super-fast cloud hosting with Cloudways.
  • 1 monthly Google Analytics report showing: number of people who visited your website during the month; where they visited from; popular pages; devices they used to view your website; plus more.
  • 2 hours of virtual assistance for your website. This is for website updates and additions you request: copy edits, image replacements, publishing blog posts (content supplied by you), editing products, removing products, and loading new products).

I come from a communications and marketing background. Writing clear and compelling copy is what I love doing.

Please note that my copywriting service is an in-depth process that requires thoughtful input from you. There will be an additional cost for this service (copywriting is not included in any of the above web design packages).

All web design and development packages include 30 days tech and maintenance support. This is to iron out any issues that occur after launch, which will be fixed free of charge provided they are identified in the 60 days.

If you would like premium web care beyond the 60 days, then it’s recommend you sign-up to Nutmeg’s Web Management and Hosting package, starting at R1200 / US$120 per month. Web Care clients enjoy premium support, 24/7. So if something were to go wrong with your website, it would be attended to immediately.

If not on a Web Care plan, then you would be charged R550 / US$55 per hour to fix any issues that are not hosting-related (the web host will fix web hosting issues on their side).

Once your website is launched, Nutmeg provides 60 days of support to make sure any bugs have been ironed out and that you are confident using your new website. After this you will need to subscribe to one of our ongoing website care plans or digital marketing plans to make sure your website is looked after and maintained. These website care plans include updating your software, regular backups, security checks, web hosting and making sure your website is online and open for business 24/7/365. More information on our website care plans is available upon request.
If you decide to manage and maintain your own website, all that you need to know will be covered in the handover guide and website training videos.

The time it takes for your website to appear on page 1 of Google depends on a number of factors. It depends on the search phrase people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also available for those search phrases. Nobody can truly say how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages (including people who actually work for Google), however there are a number of factors that can improve your chances. Building your website on WordPress is a good start as WordPress has some great Search Engine Optimisation fundamentals built-in. Creating unique and interesting content on a regular basis for your website is also critical to increase your visibility amongst search engines. Launching your website and then forgetting about it is a surefire way to get lost amongst the noise.

We will install Google Analytics software on your new website and show you how to log into your Google Analytics account where you can see a wide range of statistics about your website including number of visits, page views than the amount of time people are spending on your website.

If you subscribe to one of our website care plans you will also receive more detailed analysis about your website performance and recommendations on how to improve.

Whilst we like to be flexible and responsive to your needs, we also like to deliver what we promise within the time frames and budgets we have allowed. If you ask us to add new features to your website while we are building it, will most likely ask why? If we all agree that your new request will help us achieve our objectives then we will be more than happy to oblige. If your new feature is something you would like to add to your website but is not directly tied to your original objectives then we will suggest to schedule it for a second iteration of the website once it has been launched. This will require a new proposal.
A payment gateway is the service that sends all of your credit card transactions to your credit card processors. It also sends you a message from your credit card processor that lets you know a transaction has been authorized. There are even some payment gateways that will automatically add tax and screen for fraud. In other words, a payment gateway is simply a software application. It’s basically a conduit between an eCommerce website and the bank that authorizes (or declines) a customer’s credit card payment. Credit and debit cards, eCheck (ACH), and even cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are all processed through payment gateways. Ultimately, a payment gateway is the final step of the sales process on an eCommerce website. Without it you won’t be able to securely charge your customers when they purchase items from your website.
In South Africa, there are a number of different payment gateway options. These include: PayPal, PayFast, Zapper, Yoco and Peach Payments. When you work with me we will decide on the best payment gateway and options to use.

Every web design package includes email marketing integration with your preferred email marketing tool, or I can suggest one for you.

In addition, I will help you set up an automated welcome sequence of emails for more strategic communications and marketing, leading to more sales and inquiries for your business.
